Despite dominating possession and creating the majority of the chances, the Green-and-Whites lost their first friendly of the 2020/21 pre-season. Oliver Glasner’s men fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Eintracht Braunschweig at the AOK Stadion, with Marcel Bär scoring for the newly promoted second-division side seconds after the second half had got under way (46’). Next Saturday, 22 August, Holstein Kiel will be the visitors for the next friendly (kick-off 15.30 CEST) as the Wolves gear up for the new season. “Lacked the cutting edge“
VfL head coach Oliver Glasner: “I’m obviously not happy whenever we lose a match. The commitment levels were OK for the most part, and I thought that in the first half, we did plenty of things that we had been working on in training very well. We pressed forward a lot and created chances. In the second half we didn’t manage to get forward as much and while we had a lot of possession, we lacked the cutting edge up front. I think we’ve still got a lot of work ahead of us.”
