Winning run continues

The VfL Wolfsburg Women earned a comfortable 3-0 win away to SGS Essen on Saturday.

The She-Wolves are now just one win away from securing their sixth league title after a brace from Ewa Pajor and a goal from Pernille Harder gave them victory over Essen on Matchday 19 of the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga.

The result extends their lead over second-placed FC Bayern Munich to 11 points, although Bayern have a game in hand against bottom club FF USV Jena on Sunday. The Green-and-Whites now have the chance to win their fourth consecutive championship on Wednesday 17 June at home to SC Freiburg (kick-off 14:00 CEST).

“Now we can seal the title at home”

VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: “We controlled the game and hardly gave them a chance at the back. It was a tough match for the most part because Essen sat very deep, but at the end of the day we’re very happy to take all three points. Now we can seal the title at home, and we want to make the most of that opportunity. We couldn’t really gain any insights from this game for the cup final, as that will be a completely different game. I think both sets of players will go into the final with fresher legs because we’ll have a normal week leading up to it.”
