Women

Winning run continues

The VfL Wolfsburg Women earn a 5-0 win over promoted side 1. FC Köln.

The She-Wolves maintained their perfect start to the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga season with a 5-0 triumph in Cologne that secured a sixth victory from as many matches. Sara Gunnarsdottir struck a brace, while Noelle Maritz, Fridolina Rolfö and Pernille Harder were also on target for the defending champions at the Franz-Kremer-Stadion.
VfL are next in action on Wednesday 16 October when they welcome Dutch champions FC Twente to the AOK Stadion for the first leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League last-16 tie (kick-off 18:00 CEST).

“Early goal played into our hands”

VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: “We’re very satisfied with the result and my team deserve huge credit. We didn’t have a great deal of time to prepare for this game and had two players withdraw late on, so it was great that we were so dominant right from the off. The early goal obviously played into our hands, but we continued to control the game after that and, apart from one chance for Köln, we didn’t allow them any sights of goal. Now we’re heading home feeling good!”
