VfL Wolfsburg Women, currently in second place in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga, welcome league leaders Bayern Munich to the Volkswagen Arena at 17:45 CET on Saturday. Over 22,500 fans are expected to attend this weekend’s top-of-the-table clash.

At Friday’s pre-match press conference, head coach Tommy Stroot answered the media’s questions on…

…personnel: “Lena Lattwein and Alex Popp will miss out due to injury, but Ewa Pajor is available again and we have a new addition in Diana Nemeth, who can be included in the squad for the first time.”

…who will have the upper hand: “I’m expecting an encounter between two evenly matched teams tomorrow. The last few years have shown that form on the day and little details are often decisive in this fixture. We want to make sure we leave the pitch as winners, because we’re obviously aware of the current standings. We know we can increase the pressure with a win and let Bayern know we’re breathing down their necks.”

…the crowd: “There’s always an incredible atmosphere at the arena, so we’re delighted to be able to host another highly anticipated fixture there. We want to sweep our fans off their feet from the get-go.”

…his expectations: “It’s a meeting between two wonderful teams who are competing at the highest level. All our big games – whether in the Bundesliga or in the Champions League – have always featured contrasting periods. As such, there will be moments in this game where one team sits back, takes a breather and poses a threat in transition. However, there will also be phases where that team takes the game by the scruff of the neck in order to generate momentum. We’re prepared for all scenarios tomorrow to ensure we leave the pitch as winners.”

…trailing Bayern: “We’re still playing for first or second. We know how important this game is. If we focus on what sets us apart, we’ll have enough opportunities to win the game. We also have a few more matchdays to come – a lot can happen in those.”
