VfL Wolfsburg welcome eighth-place SC Freiburg to the Volkswagen Arena on Matchday 31 (kick-off Saturday 13 June, 15:30 CEST). After winning 1-0 at Werder Bremen on Sunday, Glasner’s side are determined to register their first home victory since the restart. Ahead of the game, the VfL boss spoke to the media about…

…Saturday’s opponents and their coach Christian Streich: “I’d like to take the opportunity to wish Christian Streich a happy birthday. I should apologise straight away, however, because we don’t want to give away any gifts on Saturday. Even though Freiburg have had a solid season and are in contention for a place in Europe, we want to make the most of the few chances we get and win the game - regardless of the situation in the table. Freiburg are very hard-working, physical and a team who don’t give you much space. They’re also dangerous at set-pieces. Overall, they’re a very difficult opponent to play against.”

…personnel: “Admir Mehmedi will miss the Freiburg and Gladbach games with an Achilles problem. The players who were carrying knocks have done very well - they’ve all been training without any issues. Renato Steffen is back from suspension and will be in the starting line-up.”

…occupying sixth place in the table: “When I came to Wolfsburg, I wanted to change the way we play. At first we didn’t suffer any defeats for weeks, but then we had a period where things went a little downhill. We’ve always thought about how we can play and what we need to adjust or change. It’s an ongoing process and I think more and more things have become second nature for the lads. I must stress, however, that we’re not done yet. There are many things we need to do better, but certain things have sunk in - both in defence and attack. We’ve taken a step forward in many areas. For me, it’s important we don’t rest on our laurels but keep going.”
