“We can cause them problems”

The Wolves travel to the Borussia-Park on Saturday to face a Mönchengladbach side with an impressive home record.

VfL Wolfsburg will look to extend their unbeaten Bundesliga run to four matches when they travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday 23 February (kick-off 15:30 CET). At Thursday’s press conference ahead of the game, VfL head coach Bruno Labbadia shared his views on…

…the personnel situation: “Wout Weghorst was forced to finish training early on Wednesday. He was suffering with a slight groin problem last week so we rested him the day before. He told us that the day off had done him good, but unfortunately he felt something out of the blue. We obviously hope that Wout can play, but it’s too soon to tell whether he’ll be able to.”

…Weghorst’s possible absence: “We’re used to having to pull a rabbit out of the hat every now and then. We had to do so recently when our defensive midfielders were sidelined. If Wout can’t play it’ll obviously be a shame, because he’s our top goalscorer and a very important member of the team.”

…the opposition: “We’re taking on an excellent team with really good players who have grown together in recent years. You can tell that the club have done a lot right. They’re a quality side and a contender for a Champions League place. We did well in our first game against them and I’m expecting a similarly intense affair on this occasion. If we perform as well as we can, we’re capable of causing our opponents problems.”

…setting new objectives after reaching 35 points: “We’ll take everything we can get, but we’d be wise not to set long-term objectives and to focus instead on our upcoming challenge. It’s important to set small targets, like producing our best performance and getting a good result in Gladbach.”
