VfL Ladies win again

The She-Wolves continued their impressive run of form with a 2-1 win away at MSV Duisburg on Sunday.

It may have been the VfL Wolfsburg Ladies' sixth game in 19 days, but the Allianz Women's Bundesliga leaders showed no sign of letting up in Duisburg, even if they did concede for the first time this season en route to an eighth league win from as many games this term. Noelle Maritz (61') and Pernille Harder (69') got the goals for the Green-Whites, who could have added to the scoreline in the closing stages after creating a number of promising chances. The result means VfL extended their lead at the top of the standings to seven points over second-placed Bayern Munich, who were held to a draw on Matchday 8. The Ladies' next game takes place after the international break on Sunday 18 November (kick-off at 14:00 CET) when they look to take the next step towards defending their DFB Cup crown in the last 16 of the competition away to third-tier outfit FC Forstern.

„Credit to the team“

Head coach Stephan Lerch: „We're happy and relieved to have won the three points. Duisburg pressed us early for much of the game and a lot of the time we were a yard off the pace or not switched on mentally. You could tell that the last few weeks have been draining. At half-time we said we would need to fight and put greater emphasis on our set-pieces. That plan worked. I have to give credit to the team for the way they played. The last few weeks have been very intensive and successful, and this result rounds it off nicely.“
