VfL in Duisburg: “We want all three points”

She-Wolves captain Alexandra Popp is hoping to return to action against MSV this weekend.

VfL Wolfsburg Women are eyeing three more points when they take on bottom club MSV Duisburg at the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena on Sunday (kick-off 18:30 CEST). Ahead of the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga Matchday 19 encounter, head coach Tommy Stroot spoke about…

…personnel: “Tabea Sellner, Rebecka Blomqvist, Marina Hegering, Camilla Küver and Sveindis Jonsdottir are all still out, and Lena Oberdorf will be absent due to suspension. We’ll wait until our final training session tomorrow to decide whether Lena Lattwein can play. Alexandra Popp is available for the squad again.”

…the opposition: “Duisburg have a clear game plan in many phases of their matches and they’re also strong in the tackle. We’re not expecting them to just roll over. We know we have to fight for everything in every Bundesliga game and in every away match. As is always the case, we want to pick up all three points on Sunday. Duisburg’s relegation battle doesn’t affect us. Our aim is to cement second place in the table.”

…who will play in defensive midfield: “There are solutions we’ve used in the past to fill the holding midfield role that Lena Oberdorf usually has. We’ll have to wait and see if Lena Lattwein can play, but Chantal Hagel is another option. Kristin Demann can play in a variety of positions, and Lynn Wilms has played in defensive midfield before. With the flexibility we have in midfield, we have enough options to play with one holding player and two number tens.”
