Up next: Bayer 04 Leverkusen

VfL Women are looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season in Leverkusen.

VfL Wolfsburg Women travel to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Sunday 12 March, kicking off at 13:00 CET. At the pre-match press conference, head coach Tommy Stroot answered questions on…

…personnel: “Katarzyna Kiedrzynek is out with a calf problem. Marina Hegering is a doubt – we’ll make a decision on her after the final training session.”

…the defeat against Hoffenheim: “The team were very critical of themselves after the final whistle. We weren’t good enough on the day but we’re treating it as a one-off lapse and have switched our attention to matters we can influence.”

…their next opponents: “Leverkusen have favoured a possession-based approach for some time. Since the start of the season, they’ve also had a Dutch coach who prefers that style. Our meeting earlier this season was between the top two teams in the league at the time – which shows the technical qualities Bayer had at their disposal all of a sudden. Their impressive start has to be put in perspective, but they still have certain qualities and a strong mentality.”

…the task at hand: “It’s definitely not going to be an easy away game. We need to communicate clearly and stay organised at the back in particular. If we manage that, we’re obviously aware of our own qualities too. It’s clear that we want to win the game.”
