Strong on the road

VfL Wolfsburg travel to Bayern Munich as the second best away team in the Bundesliga this season. We round up all the key facts and figures ahead of Saturday’s trip to Bavaria.

The Wolves face the daunting task of a trip to Bayern Munich on Saturday 9 March (15:30 CET). VfL have done extremely well on their travels recently, though, losing just two of their previous eight games away from home. Indeed, only Bayern (30) have collected more points on the road than the Green-Whites (23) this season. Niko Kovac’s side won 3-1 at the Volkswagen Arena in October 2018, but VfL will fancy their chances of getting a result at the Allianz Arena this weekend.

•    The Wolves are currently on a five-match unbeaten run in the league.
•    VfL have collected 24 points from their last 12 Bundesliga games - as many as league leaders Borussia Dortmund. Only Bayer 04 Leverkusen (25) and Bayern (33) have picked up more points in that time.
•    VfL are becoming increasingly dangerous from set-pieces, having scored five goals from dead-ball situations in their last four Bundesliga matches (three from free-kicks, two from the penalty spot).
•    John Anthony Brooks, who scored VfL’s goal against SV Werder Bremen last time out, is one of the Wolves’ most dangerous players from set-pieces. The defender’s last five Bundesliga goals have all been headers, but he scored his first league goal from a free-kick against Werder. His previous seven league goals had all come from corners.
•    The Green-Whites’ 3-0 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach was their 100th away win in the Bundesliga. Never before have VfL boasted a better away record after 12 away games.
•    The Wolves have picked up eight more points away from home (23) than they have at the Volkswagen Arena this season (16).
•    Can VfL end their barren run in Munich? The record champions are unbeaten in 21 home Bundesliga matches against the Wolves (19W, 2D).
