The Wolves’ stay in Portugal is nearing an end, with one more day of training and Saturday’s friendly match against Croatian side HNK Rijeka (kick-off 14:00CET and live on the VfL Wolfsburg YouTube channel) to come before they head home to Germany.

Fans cheering every goal

On Thursday, the squad made the most of impeccable facilities at “The CAMPUS” sports complex, starting their regular morning stabilisation session out on the pitch half an hour earlier than usual. Afterwards the players practised finishing in front of the watching VfL fans, who cheered every successful strike.
In the afternoon there was an 11-a-side practice match, punctuated by head coach Bruno Labbadia’s stoppages for tactical discussions. Finally, the squad finished off with a half-hour run.

‘An intensive training camp‘

With two days of the training camp left, there are already plenty of positives to report, not least captain Josuha Guilavogui regaining fitness following a long period on the sidelines. “It’s been an intensive training camp,” said the Frenchman. “It’s not as hard as in the summer, but we‘ve put the yards in and some sessions were really hard work. After such a good first half of the season, the atmosphere in the squad is excellent and that makes training easier.”
