Women

Solid start to the season

VfL Women beat 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam 3-0 in their league opener on Saturday.

Optimism was high among the VfL Wolfsburg Women after a good pre-season – and their first competitive fixture of the 2021/22 campaign proved the optimism was justified. Under new head coach Tommy Stroot and with fans back at the AOK Stadion, the She-Wolves won 3-0 against 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam on Matchday 1 of the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga. Ewa Pajor netted a brace before Pia-Sophie Wolter completed the scoring for VfL, who face another important home match in just four days’ time.

This Wednesday, 1 September (kick-off 18:00 CEST), Stroot’s side take on Girondins de Bordeaux in the first leg of the second round of qualifying for the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage.

Coach’s reaction

Tommy Stroot: “I’m very pleased with the team’s performance today. We had a lot of control in our play, especially in the second half. This is something for us to build on. But what pleased me most today was that we had fans back in the stadium and that there was such a great atmosphere. I’ve rarely experienced anything like it; I really enjoyed it. Now it’s about recovering as quickly as possible and then focussing on the game against Bordeaux on Wednesday.”
