She-Wolves sign Huth

Germany international Svenja Huth has agreed to join the VfL Wolfsburg Ladies next season.

A week after agreeing a new contract with Pernille Harder, the VfL Wolfsburg women’s team have secured the long-term services of another international star by signing Germany attacker Svenja Huth, who will join the club for the start of the 2019/20 season. The 28-year-old 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam player has signed a contract with the four-time German champions until 30 June 2022 and will wear the number 10 shirt.

Popp’s understudy

Huth made her Women’s Bundesliga debut for 1. FFC Frankfurt at just 16 years of age. She won seven titles with the Hessian club, including the 2008 UEFA Women’s Cup and the 2015 UEFA Women’s Champions League. She has been capped 41 times by Germany, who she helped win the UEFA European Women’s Championship in 2013 and Olympic gold in 2016. She was appointed vice-captain of the four-time World Cup winners earlier this week, with VfL striker Alexandra Popp named first-choice skipper.

“Fits our team perfectly”

“I’m really looking forward to the new challenge that lies ahead at VfL Wolfsburg next season,” said Huth. “After four years in Potsdam, it’s time to take the next step in my development and to establish myself at a top European club with exceptional players and ideal facilities.”

“We’re incredibly pleased that one of the best German attacking players will be plying her trade in VfL colours from now on,” added VfL Ladies’ sporting director Ralf Kellermann. “Svenja has not only developed as a player in recent years, but she’s also developed into a character who embodies ambition and leads from the front. With these attributes, she fits perfectly into our team and at VfL Wolfsburg.”
