Ahead of their final game of the Allianz Women’s Bundesliga season this weekend, the VfL Wolfsburg Ladies have wrapped up their transfer dealings for next term with the signing of Dutch defender Dominique Bloodworth from newly crowned English champions Arsenal Women. The 24-year-old joins the five-time German title winners on a contract until 30 June 2022.
Bloodworth made 99 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal after joining the club in 2015. She also spent two years with German side SGS Essen between 2013 and 2015, when she was still known by her maiden name, Janssen. She played 49 times for the west German outfit and even helped them reach the final of the DFB Cup in 2014.
The defender has represented the Netherlands at every level from the Under-15s upwards, helping the Under-19s become European champions in 2014. Since making her debut for the full national side that same year, Bloodworth has gone on to win 46 caps, and she was part of the Dutch team that emerged victorious from UEFA Women’s Euro 2017.
