She-Wolves into the final!

The VfL Wolfsburg Women booked their place in the DFB Cup final thanks to a 5-0 victory away to DSC Arminia Bielefeld in the last four on Wednesday.

The She-Wolves will play in the final in Cologne for a sixth successive year after living up to their billing as overwhelming favourites against second-tier side Bielefeld in the semi-finals. The reigning cup holders earned the victory with a brace from Claudia Neto as well as goals from Pernille Harder, Pia-Sophie Wolter and Sara Gunnarsdottir. Stephan Lerch’s side will face SGS Essen in the final on Saturday 4 July (kick-off 16:45 CEST).

“Delighted to be in the final again”

VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: “We didn’t get into the game very well at the start and in the first quarter of an hour we had a lot of stray passes and sloppy moments. It could even have got dangerous for us following a long ball that we underestimated. We increasingly took control after that, played our game and created a few chances for ourselves. We should have had a bigger lead than 2-0 at the break.

“We didn’t give them a sniff in the second half and Bielefeld didn’t get anywhere near our goal. Although we didn’t get as many goals as we could have, we still totally justified our tag as favourites. Reaching the final for a sixth year in a row isn’t something you can take for granted. Cologne has become something of a second home for us and we’re delighted to be in the final there again this year.”
