She-Wolves cruise into last four

VfL Women beat Glasgow City FC 9-1 in the UWCL quarter-finals.

VfL Wolfsburg Women cleared their first hurdle at the UWCL finals tournament in emphatic style, beating Glasgow City FC 9-1 in San Sebastian, Spain. Pernille Harder netted four of VfL’s goals at the Estadio Anoeta, with Ingrid Engen scoring twice and Felicitas Rauch, Lena Oberdorf and Leanne Ross (own goal) completing the scoring for the two-time European champions.

Stephan Lerch’s side will now face 2019 finalists FC Barcelona, who have former She-Wolf Caroline Hansen in their ranks, in the semi-finals. The game against the Spanish champions, who beat domestic rivals Atletico Madrid 1-0 in their quarter-final tie, will also take place in San Sebastian on Tuesday 25 August (kick-off 20:00 CEST, live on Wölfe TV).

“We didn’t settle for what we had”

VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: “I’m very happy. Glasgow gave us more space than we’d anticipated before the game and we were able to take full advantage. We kept creating chances and deserved to score our goals too. We kept the tempo up in the second half and didn’t settle for what we had. Our enthusiasm enabled us to add further gloss to the scoreline. We’ve started the tournament with a superb result, which gives us confidence for our next challenge.”
