The She-Wolves continued their perfect start to the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga in emphatic fashion, coasting to a 3-0 victory at 1. FFC Frankfurt to move three points clear of surprise package TSG 1899 Hoffenheim at the top of the table.
In front of 2,050 spectators at the Stadion am Brentanobad, Fridolina Rolfö opened the scoring on her full league debut before Pernille Harder’s penalty and a Sophia Kleinherne own goal put the seal on the visitors’ seventh consecutive league win. However, the victory was soured by an injury to VfL forward Alexandra Popp, who appeared to hurt her foot in the first half.
The Green-and-Whites return to action when SGS Essen visit the AOK Stadion on Saturday 26 October (kick-off 13:00 CEST).
“A very mature performance”
VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: “Our happiness with the victory is mixed with concern for our injured players. We travelled here with a depleted squad, so I only hope that Alexandra Popp and Fridolina Rolfö [who suffered an ankle injury] recover quickly. I’m incredibly proud of my team today - they rose to the challenge on a very difficult surface. The pitch was very slow and we often needed two or three touches [to get the ball under control]. It took us around 20 minutes to get into the game, but after that it was a very mature performance and we ended the game very strongly.”
