Schult sidelined by illness

Almuth Schult, goalkeeper for VfL Wolfsburg women's team, has been diagnosed with measles.

The VfL Wolfsburg women's team will be without the services of goalkeeper Almuth Schult over the coming weeks. The 27-year-old has been diagnosed with measles after complaining of flu symptoms during the team's training camp in Portugal.

The club's medical department had already taken all the necessary measures for a contagious illness and notified the health authorities. Schult was immediately flown to Hamburg at the first hint of the illness in order to provide her with the best medical care, and there was no risk of infection for her team-mates or the coaching and backroom staff.

The Germany goalkeeper is now on the road to recovery. The timeframe for her return to training depends on how the rest of the recovery process goes, especially considering that measles weakens the immune system.
