Return leg against Donetsk in early August

Dates and format decided for remaining Europa League and Women's Champions League matches.

VfL Wolfsburg’s 2-1 defeat on 12 March 2020 in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 against FC Shakhtar Donetsk turned out to be quite unique, with the match being played behind closed doors at the Volkswagen Arena due to the spread of COVID-19. It was also the last game before the enforced break that would extend for over two months. This Wednesday, UEFA announced how the Europa League would restart for the Wolves and the other remaining teams.

Return leg against Shakhtar on 5 or 6 August

The second leg of the Round of 16 against the Ukrainians will be played on either 5 or 6 August, but it has not yet been decided whether the match will take place as originally planned in Charkiw or at a German venue. All of the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final will, however, definitely take place in four different German cities, namely Cologne, Duisburg, Düsseldorf and Gelsenkirchen. All ties from the quarter-finals onwards will also be direct elimination with only one match instead of being over two legs, with all kick-offs at 21:00. The remaining Round of 16 ties will either start at 18.55 CEST or 21:00 CEST.

Women’s quarter-finals against Glasgow in Spain

VfL Wolfsburg Women qualified for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women's Champions League back in late October 2019 when they beat FC Twente, but again the remainder of the competition was postponed due to the pandemic.

It has now been announced that the She-Wolves’ quarter-final against Glasgow City will be played on either 21 or 22 August, again over just the one leg and either at the Stadion San Mamés in Bilbao or the Anoeta-Stadion in San Sebastian. These two Spanish stadiums will between them host the three other quarter-final ties as well as the semis and the final. All matches will have a 20:00 CEST kick-off.
