After strolling to a comprehensive 5-2 win at home to Fortuna Düsseldorf before the international break, Bruno Labbadia's side return to action with a trip to second-placed Dortmund on Saturday 30 March. The Green-Whites were beaten 1-0 by BVB in the corresponding fixture in November, but the Wolves have impressed on their travels this term and are determined to get a positive result. The following statistics suggest there is plenty of reason to be optimistic ahead of the trip to Signal Iduna Park.
- VfL have scored 44 Bundesliga goals so far this season. The last time they scored as many after 26 games was in 2014/15 (57), when they finished runners-up.
- The Green-Whites have scored six goals from set-pieces in their last six league matches – more than any other Bundesliga club in that period.
- Striker Wout Weghorst was directly involved in five goals against Düsseldorf (three goals, two assists). The last Dutchman to play a part in five goals in a single Bundesliga game was Arjen Robben, who scored two and assisted three in Bayern Munich's 8-1 win against FC St. Pauli in May 2011.
- The Wolves scored with their first four shots on target against Fortuna, with nine of their ten efforts on target coming in the second half. No other Bundesliga club has registered more shots on target in a single half this season.
- The win against Düsseldorf helped VfL close the gap on the European places, lifting them level on 42 points with sixth-placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
