"Played well as a unit"

The coaches' reactions to VfL Wolfsburg's 2-0 DFB Cup second-round win at Hannover 96.

VfL Wolfsburg booked a place in the DFB Cup last 16 by beating Hannover 96 2-0 on Tuesday, Bruno Labbadia's side recording a second successive win in all competitions. Just as they did last season, the Wolves eliminated their neighbours from the DFB Cup at this stage.

The round of 16 takes place on 5/6 February 2019, with the draw to be made on Sunday 4 November. The local rivals will renew their rivalry in the not-too-distant future: Wolfsburg travel to Hannover in the Bundesliga on Friday 9 November (kick-off: 20:30CET). Here's what the respective coaches made of the Wolves' DFB Cup success.

Bruno Labbadia: "We played very, very well in the first half, moved the ball well and scored a lovely goal. Apart from one chance for [Ihlas] Bebou, we had the game under control. That [chance] was when Hannover hit us on the counter, which was definitely their plan. In the second half Hannover put us under a lot of pressure with their long balls, but my side took to the fight well. Overall we're very pleased to have won the game, particularly because we stayed compact in the second half and played well as a unit."

Andre Breitenreiter: "We actually started well and should have gone ahead. That would have done us some good, but instead we conceded another soft goal. At the break we changed things to be more attacking; there was no real flow to the game and as time went on we began to increase the pressure. You could see the team's desire, despite the setbacks. We really wanted to get to the next round, but we didn't manage to. We need to keep our heads up. Our focus is now on the league where we're in a relegation battle."
