Women

Off to Tyrol

The VfL women’s team are taking part in a training camp in Walchsee, Austria.

A good fortnight ahead of the start of the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga season, which gets under way with the visit of SC Sand on Sunday 18 August (kick-off 14:00 CEST), the five-time German champions are getting down to the nitty-gritty of their preparations. Once again, head coach Stephan Lerch is taking the squad for a training camp in Walchsee, Austria (2 – 11 August), to work on the finishing touches ahead of the forthcoming campaign.

Arsenal the highlight of the friendlies

“The training camp is very important for us because we will be together for a long period of time and be able to get to know one another better," said Lerch, who spoke of a "real upheaval" in light of the six departures and seven new signings compared with the previous season’s squad. The She-Wolves have two friendlies in which to measure their progress, starting on 7 August with a real test against English champions Arsenal Women (15:30 CEST), followed by Austrian league winners SKN St. Pölten, who will be in town on Friday 9 August (15:30 CEST). Both matches are being played at the Kaiserwinkl-Arena in Kössen.

Full squad in Austria

Despite their injuries, Almuth Schult (shoulder operation) and Fridolina Rolfö (foot) have also travelled to the Austrian Tyrol with the squad. "We decided that all of the players should be involved, even if they won’t be ready to join us out on the pitch straight away," said Lerch.
