“No handbrake on”

The latest ahead of VfL Women’s clash against 1. FC Köln.

Der VfL-Wolfsburg-Trainer Tommy Stroot klatscht in die Hände.

On Friday 3 May at 18:30 CEST, VfL Women take on 1. FC Köln in the penultimate home game of the 2023/24 season. The She-Wolves have won nine of their last 10 meetings with Köln, with the other ending in a draw. At the pre-match press conference, head coach Tommy Stroot discussed…

…the personnel situation: “Tabea Sellner, Rebecka Blomqvist, Camilla Küver and Marina Hegering are out. Lena Lattwein is doubtful because of flu. Sveindis Jonsdottir has trained fully again this week and is available.”

…the excitement for tomorrow: “I’m looking forward to the home match now because, in my mind, it’s like we’re going via Cologne to Cologne. I sense great anticipation for the cup final among the fan base – we had a relatively large number of spectators at training yesterday. So, this home game is a great opportunity to come together with the fans again and generate some belief, which we can take with us to the cup final.”

…easing off ahead of the cup final: “There’s no such thing! They’re two matches that are completely independent of each other. We’re playing on Friday and then again on Thursday. In that respect, you can’t compare the situation to playing twice in one week and therefore there’s no need to put the handbrake on. We’re going into this match with all guns blazing and fully focused on picking up the three points, in order to secure second place. We also know that we want to head into the cup final with a good feeling, and a good performance against Köln is part of that.”

…a possible 300th Bundesliga appearance for Svenja Huth: “It’s a figure that I have huge respect for and that only players like Svenja, who consistently deliver that reliability and that quality, can reach.”
