VfL Wolfsburg have further bolstered their squad with the signing of Nuria Rabano Blanco, who will begin training with the She-Wolves immediately. The Spanish defender, who predominantly plays at left-back, has put pen to paper on a contract through to 30 June 2026. She will wear the number 14 shirt. The 24-year-old moves on a free transfer from Champions League winners FC Barcelona, where she made 24 appearances in all competitions last season.

In Primera Division since 2019

Rabano previously played for Real Sociedad between 2020 and 2022, helping the Basque club to qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the first time in the 2021/22 campaign. Her debut in the Spanish Primera Division came in 2019 for Deportivo La Coruna following the Galician club’s promotion to the Spanish top flight. Rabano has represented her country from U17 level and made her first and so far only senior appearance for Spain in 2022 in a friendly against Sweden.

“VfL among Europe’s elite”

“I’m really looking forward to the new challenge at VfL Wolfsburg,” said Rabano. “VfL have been among Europe’s elite for many years and even in Spain they’re renowned for how professionally they work, so I’m very happy to be able to take this step in my career. First of all, I’ll put everything into integrating as quickly as possible and settling into my new surroundings. Beyond that, I want to use my qualities to help the team achieve their ambitious goals in three competitions.”

“Valuable addition”

Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg, said: “We already had Nuria on our radar during her time in San Sebastian, where she impressed us with consistently good performances. The transfer didn’t materialise at the time because she chose FC Barcelona. We’re now very glad that we’ve found our way to each other – after all we’re convinced by her qualities as a skilful left-back with attacking instincts. I’m sure Nuria will be a valuable addition to our squad, particularly with a view to our strength in depth.”
