New contract and more playing time

Anna-Lena Stolze extends contract with VfL, goes out on loan to FC Twente.

VfL Wolfsburg have extended Anna-Lena Stolze’s contract by another season, taking it from 30 June 2021 to 2022. In the short term, however, the 19-year-old attacker will be wearing a different jersey, with the five-time German champions loaning her out to Twente until the end of the 2020/2021 season. Ironically, the 2016 Euro U17 winner played for VfL against her new club just a few weeks ago in the return leg of the round of 16 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Stolze came on in the 72nd minute against the Dutch champions.

“Real recognition”

“I’m delighted and excited about what lies ahead,” said Stolze. “FC Twente have been one of the top teams in women’s football in the Netherlands for a number of years now and I’m confident that I will be able to further my development with the club. I’m very grateful to those in charge at VfL who gave me this early contract extension – that’s real recognition for me, and I’ll be doing all I can to repay their faith in me from 2021 onwards!“

“We continue to believe in Anna-Lena’s abilities but think that she needs playing time at the highest level if she is to continue her development,” added Ralf Kellermann, VfL Women’s sporting director. “We have a squad at the moment that is very strong both in terms of quality and quantity, so we can’t offer her what she needs at VfL at this present time, but I’m absolutely sure that all sides will benefit from this loan. Anna-Lena will take her career to the next level in the Netherlands and FC Twente will have a very talented player in their ranks. We wish Anna-Lena all the very best as she takes on this new challenge.“
