The Bundesliga women from VfL Wolfsburg go into the winter break as league leaders for the fourth time in the side’s history. In the final game in the first half of the season, on Sunday afternoon, coach Stephan Lerch’s eleven secured a clear 6-0 (0-0) win away to 1. FC Köln. The goals for the Green-Whites, in front of a crowd of almost 400 in the Kölner Südstadion were scored by Mal Pernille Harder (50’/57’/69’/72’), Babett Peter (52’) and Caroline Hansen (87’). With their ninth win in eleven league games, last season’s double-winners extended their lead at the top further still and will remain leaders into the season re-start against TSG Hoffenheim on February 18th.

"Nice snap-shot"

Stephan Lerch: We had wanted to be patient and get our opponents on the run, but that didn’t work out at the beginning. Our passing was imprecise and there were several situations which we failed to resolve accordingly. Wes poke about those things during the half-time break and did the job much better after the re-start. We were concentrated in our finishing and cool-headed in front of goal. We are delighted about the result and our position in the table. The mid-season championship title is a nice snap-shot – but no more than that! It gives us a further boost for the tough tasks that await us in the second half of the season.
