Leipzig in last 16

VfL Wolfsburg will travel to RB Leipzig in the DFB Cup round of 16.

The Wolves face another all-Bundesliga away tie in the DFB Cup after being drawn against RB Leipzig in the last 16. The two sides will battle it out at the Red Bull Arena for a place in the quarter-finals. The draw for the next round of the competition was made on Sunday evening at the German Football Museum in Dortmund, with St. Pauli’s blind footballer Serdal Celebi and Horst Hrubesch, coach of the German women’s national team, pulling out the names. The last 16 ties will be played on 5 and 6 February, with the exact schedule to be confirmed.

Third cup meeting

The Wolves have come up against Leipzig twice before in the DFB Cup – both matches taking place in the east German city. In the 2011/12 campaign, VfL suffered a 3-2 defeat in the first round, but they avenged that with a 2-0 win in the last 16 in 2014/15 on their way to winning the competition. Ralf Rangnick’s side have overcome Viktoria Köln and TSG Hoffenheim to get this far, while the Green-Whites will be looking to continue their away run in the DFB Cup after victories over SV Elversberg and Hannover 96.
