Last stop Bielefeld, en route to Cologne

VfL Women face second-tier side DSC Arminia Bielefeld in the DFB Cup semi-finals.

There’s just one more step between VfL Wolfsburg Women and a sixth successive DFB Cup final appearance. A week after their 3-0 win at FSV Gütersloh 2009 in the last round, the holders visit second division outfit Arminia in the semi-finals on Wednesday afternoon (kick-off 14:00 CEST). If the She-Wolves triumph in North Rhine-Westphalia again, they will head to the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne on Saturday 4 July (kick-off 16:45 CEST) in search of the seventh cup success in the club’s history.

Lerch calls on side to prove quality

“We possess greater quality and we need to show that to the opposition. If we do, then we’ll go through,” said head coach Stephan Lerch ahead of the game. For two members of the She-Wolves squad, the match will take on special significance – Friederike Abt and Lena Goeßling were both born in Bielefeld.

Doorsoun fit again

Sara Doorsoun is available for selection again after shaking off a knee problem. The defender, who recently extended her contract until 2023, has been back in full training for a few days. Felicitas Rauch is still sidelined with a muscle injury, though.
