„I'm extremely satisfied“

VfL Women head coach Tommy Stroot drew a positive conclusion after the training camp.

The She-Wolves spent nine days in Portugal to lay the foundations for a successful 2023. Before the double-winners returned home to Germany on Friday, head coach Tommy Stroot held a media briefing and answered questions on…

…the training camp: "We were able to work on the areas we wanted to. That was very important for us. On the whole we created a situation in which the majority of the players are leaving the camp much fitter than when they entered it. I'm extremely satisfied with this training camp. It was also important in terms of our togetherness in between training sessions. We had lots of time with each other away from the football pitch, which is very valuable. On top of that, the weather was perfect and we were able to work in a different way than we do in Wolfsburg."

…the focus of the training sessions: "We worked on being even more flexible in our build-up play. We want to build on that in our next friendly matches. Our defensive shape against well-drilled opponents was another point we looked at. I saw a lot of good things but there were also some details that didn't go so well. We paid close attention to small details because we want to make adjustments and see things develop. On the whole we were able to gain a lot of insights."

…the condition his team is in: "Initially it was important for us to have a sense of what our condition was. We deal with players individually. We're building things up gradually and will use our next friendlies to guide us. Obviously we want to see the next steps in our development, and we want to keep progressing with caution."

…competition for places: "We're developing in such a way that we don't have competition for places but a common objective. That's the sense I get after this training camp. The players are fully committed, they accept their roles and throw themselves into every situation – it really is something special. At the same time we wat everyone to be fit to give ourselves as many options as possible. Individually we know that there is competition for places, but that was sorted out in the first half of the season."
