Hard-fought win in Bremen

VfL Women beat SV Werder Bremen 2-0 away from home on Saturday.

VfL Wolfsburg Women lived up to their favourites tag in their first away game of the new FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga season. After beating 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam 3-0 a week ago, Tommy Stroot’s side earned a 2-0 win at SV Werder Bremen on Saturday. Kathrin Hendrich and Ewa Pajor got the goals in front of 150 spectators on Pitch 11 of the Weserstadion.

The She-Wolves are back in Bundesliga action at 13:00 CEST on Sunday 12 September, when they welcome SC Sand to the AOK Stadion. On Wednesday 8 September (kick-off 19:00 CEST), VfL will look to seal their place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage when they travel to FC Girondins de Bordeaux in their second qualifying round second leg.

Reaction

Tommy Stroot: “At the end of the day we rewarded ourselves for creating more chances and being the better side. Scoring late on is a skill in itself. We also knew our chances of scoring in the final 15 minutes would increase because we were forcing the opponents to work very hard. In any case, I’m very pleased it worked out today. We’ll now focus on Bordeaux knowing which areas still need tweaking.”
