Freiburg has been a particularly happy hunting ground for VfL Wolfsburg lately, with the Green-Whites registering wins in each of their five most recent visits to the Black Forest, taking their total to six victories, six defeats and three draws in their last 15 trips to the Schwarzwald-Stadion in all competitions. Indeed, that record makes grim reading for Freiburg coach Christian Streich, who has lost all of his home games against VfL since taking over at the Baden-Württemberg club, conceding 15 goals and scoring just three in that period. - The trip to Freiburg is the longest in the Bundesliga for Wolves fans – it’s exactly 634 kilometres by car from the Volkswagen Arena to the Schwarzwald-Stadion.
- VfL are ahead when it comes to the overall record between the two sides, with 14 wins to 11 defeats. The points have been shared on eight occasions.
- The two clubs first met in the second tier in the 1992/93 season, the only time when there have been 24 teams in the division. After a 3-3 draw in Wolfsburg, the Green-Whites claimed an impressive 3-1 away win.
