At the VfL Christmas party, the Wolves rang out the year together.

It is long since a genuine tradition and a set part of the appointment calendar amongst the VfL: The annual Wolves Christmas party in the ‘Eventcenter’ of the Volkswagen Arena. Some 330 guests gathered in Halle09 and Club45 on Sunday afternoon, to ring out an exciting and, at times nerve-wracking 2017 in jubilant fashion.

Aside from the employees of VfL Wolfsburg-Fußball GmbH, the event was also attended by those responsible for the club’s sporting activities with Director of Sport Olaf Rebbe and head-coach Martin Schmidt, with his coaching team and the entire Bundesliga squad. With the Wolves back in action again on Tuesday, December 12th (kick-off 18:30 CET) against RB Leipzig, team-captain Mario Gomez and his colleagues departed after the official part was completed at 21:00 CET.

Special guest Marcel Schäfer

Particular endurance was displayed by VfL’s all-time record out-field player Marcel Schäfer, who is currently under contract at American second-division side Tampa Bay Rowdies and will return to the Wolves at the end of his active playing career, as he made use of his trip home to catch up with his former and future colleagues.

"Our VfL is fun again"

VfL Supervisory-Board chairman Dr. Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz had some clear words looking back on the previous and current situation with the Green-Whites. "Our VfL is fun again! Not necessary in every game and over the entire ninety minutes, but ever more often! We are getting to see a real footballing idea being transferred onto the pitch. VfL are also gaining ever more sympathies. We are picking up some important points too! The tasks and challenges at VfL are not getting any smaller. Volkswagen and VfL have achieved a great dealt together in the past. And we have high-hopes together for the future. We must continue moving ahead step-by-step in our realignment consistently. All along, we have had the fantastic and vitally important backing of our fans! Our fans are enthusiastic and creative in representing our club-motto: 'Arbeit, Fußball, Leidenschaft'", (work, football, passion) commented the Spanish born chairman, who didn’t forget the VfL employees either. "The past few months haven’t been easy for you either, but the daily passion, determination and professionalism displayed by you deserves the utmost of respect." Following the emotional words from the board member, the Wolves then settled down to enjoy a wonderful buffet and then went on to celebrate into the early hours of Monday morning, with the ‚Eventcenter‘ transferred into a disco. At the end, all those participating were agreed: It was yet another wonderful Christmas party with the VfL family, which all enjoyed from the first minute to the last.
