“Good for our continued development”

The thoughts of the coaches after the Wolves’ 2-1 victory at Eintracht Frankfurt.

VfL Wolfsburg’s first back-to-back league wins since Matchdays 1 and 2 have come against two of the top teams in the Bundesliga this season: RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt. VfL head coach Bruno Labbadia duly praised the “tremendous fight” shown by his players.

Bruno Labbadia: “First of all I want to express my respect for what my counterpart Adi Hütter and his team have achieved in recent weeks. It’s been very impressive. Our aim today was to stop Eintracht’s run and my players did that well, even if we didn’t quite play the football that we wanted to. They earned it through their tremendous fight against opponents who possess a lot of power. It’s also good for the team’s continued development that they’re able to defend so well against a team with that attack. If we’d made better use of one or two counters, we could’ve had a more comfortable final period of the game but you always need a bit of luck against this Eintracht team, so we’re very happy with the three points.”

Adi Hütter: “I congratulate VfL Wolfsburg on the win. It was a very hard-fought, physical Bundesliga game. I felt that we were in control in the first 25 minutes. To be 1-0 down at half-time was quite unusual for us considering the last few months. We knew it would be very difficult against Wolfsburg because they can defend very well. We gave our all until the end but in my opinion we conceded too many counterattacks because we were a bit too sloppy at times, although we could’ve got a draw.”
