Facts and figures ahead of the Wolves’ trip to Mainz.

Unbeaten in six matches and on the back of a convincing home win last time out, VfL will be heading off to face 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday 5 November (kick-off: 15.30 CET) with the wind in their sails. Mainz are on equally good form on home turf however, having thrashed 1. FC Köln 5-0 two weeks ago.

The two sides have met 42 times in the past, with the Wolves well clear on 17 wins compared with 10 for FSV.

  • Current Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp is Mainz’s overall top scorer against VfL with four goals. The leaders for the Green-and-Whites, also on four, are Edin Dzeko and Bulgaria’s Martin Petrov. • Coach Bo Svensson will not have happy memories of Mainz’s most recent trip to Wolfsburg, with his team slipping to a 5-0 loss in April of this year – the heaviest defeat of his time at the helm.

  • Mainz’s Anton Stach, who recently made his full international debut for Germany, is a former VfL player, the midfielder making 40 fourth-tier appearances for the U23s between September 2018 and February 2020.
