The key facts and figures from the Wolves’ trip to Bremen.

Die beiden VfL-WOlfsburg-Spieler Ridle Baku und Kevin Behrens klatschen sich ab und lachen dabei.

After a run of 11 games without a win in the Bundesliga, the Wolves came out on top of an exciting contest away to Werder Bremen, the 2-0 victory being their first since they beat Darmstadt away 1-0 on 16 December 2023. It was the perfect debut for Ralph Hasenhüttl as coach and gave VfL Wolfsburg their seventh win of the season. It also helped them pull eight points clear of 16th spot and the relegation play-off place.

Full debut for Sarr: Summer 2023 signing Amin Sarr had previously made 10 appearances for VfL, all of them from the bench. This time around, the Swede found himself in the starting line-up, alongside Kevin Behrens in attack. He featured for 82 minutes before making way for Jonas Wind – the most playing time he’s had all season.

Super subs: Lovro Majer came off the bench and made sure of the three points with his goal to make it 2-0 in the 87th minute. The assist also came from fellow sub Wind.

Hero and villain: Maxence Lacroix certainly left his mark on the match, scoring the opening goal in time added on at the end of the first half (45‘+4) before seeing red for a foul a quarter of an hour from the end. This was the Frenchman’s third sending-off of the season: the first also came against Werder in the 2-2 draw earlier in the season when he picked up a second yellow card, and that was followed by a straight red on Matchday 15 away to Darmstadt. Ironically, the Wolves picked up seven points across those three matches.
