Felix Nmecha arrives

The attacker has joined the Wolves for three years on a free transfer.

VfL Wolfsburg have completed their fifth signing of the summer with Felix Nmecha joining on a three-year contract until 2024. The attacking midfielder is the younger brother of Lukas Nmecha, who returned to the Wolves last Friday. The 20-year-old was previously under contract at English champions Manchester City. Felix Nmecha has been given the number 20 shirt by the Green-and-Whites, and he’ll train with his new teammates for the first time on Thursday at the training camp in Bad Waltersdorf in Austria.

“Brings a lot of talent”

“Felix is a player who fits perfectly with our requirement profile,” said VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer. “He’s young, brings a lot of talent, is eager to learn, willing and able, and a team player. He now has the chance to take the next step in his development and we’ll help him to achieve that in Wolfsburg.”

“I’m pleased to be here and I’m grateful for the confidence that VfL have placed in me,” added Felix Nmecha. “I’m ready to give my best for the team and be successful.”

Manchester City academy product

Like his brother, Felix Nmecha was born in Hamburg. In 2008 he moved to Manchester City, where he progressed through all the youth teams and made the step up to men’s football. He made his first-team debut under Pep Guardiola on 23 January 2019, in the Citizens’ 1-0 win in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg at Burton Albion. During the season just gone, he made one further appearance in the FA Cup as well as a substitute appearance in the UEFA Champions League group stage match at home to Olympiacos on 3 November 2020, in which he set up the final goal in a 3-0 victory.

The right-footer played twice for the England U16 team in 2015 before switching allegiance to Germany in 2018, for whom he made three appearances at U18 level. Soon after that, he switched back to the English FA and was involved with the country’s U19 side.
