Dress rehearsal ahead of the season-opener

VfL’s final pre-season friendly sees Oliver Glasner’s side host OGC Nice as part of the Wolves’ fan and family day.

The sporting highlight of Saturday’s fan and family day at the Volkswagen Arena takes place at 15:00 CEST, when Glasner’s team faces Nice in the neighbouring AOK Stadion in a friendly consisting of two 60-minute halves.

 Dante returns

For the Wolves, Saturday’s clash also represents the dress rehearsal ahead of their first competitive game of the new season, namely the DFB Cup first round tie with Hallescher FC on Monday 12 August. Nice finished seventh in Ligue 1 last season and have a familiar face in their ranks in the form of 35-year-old captain Dante. The centre-back made 33 competitive appearances for the Green-and-Whites in 2015/16 before joining the club from the French Riviera.

Three notable absentees

The Wolves will be without long-term absentees Ignacio Camacho and Daniel Ginczek, but summer signings Kevin Mbabu, Xaver Schlager and Joao Victor will all be given a chance to impress. Paulo Otavio, who has been unable to train due to a muscle problem, is also sidelined.
