"Details weren't quite there"

The coaches' post-match reactions following VfL Wolfsburg's 1-0 defeat at RB Leipzig in the DFB Cup last 16.

VfL Wolfsburg's DFB Cup adventure came to an end on Wednesday in the round of 16, the Wolves beaten 1-0 by RB Leipzig, who progress to the quarter-finals. The 21,135 spectators in attendance at the Red Bull Arena enjoyed a well-fought knockout tie, with the home side scoring the only goal of the game through Matheus Cunha in the ninth minute. VfL battled hard throughout, but Leipzig were in control for long periods and spurned several gilt-edged chances to extend their lead.

Here's what the coaches had to say afterwards

Bruno Labbadia: "We would have really liked to have qualified. We tried everything and started well. The goal came out of nowhere and knocked us off course – particularly in possession, when we wanted to stretch Leipzig so they weren't in control. We lost a bit of belief after their goal and showed them a bit too much respect. They went man for man and we responded by playing long balls, which played into their hands. The team threw everything forward right until the end of the second half, but the details weren't quite there going forward."

Ralf Rangnick: "Off the ball we were very impressive against a much better footballing side than our last two opponents. Even so, we only allowed them one real chance, and Peter Gulacsi made a great save to preserve the 1-0 lead. At the moment we're in our best period of the season in terms of our work off the ball. The only thing to criticise today is that we didn't put the game to bed earlier with the chances we had in front of goal and on the break."
