Continue winning run on the road

The facts and figures on the match at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

With three matchdays to go until the end of the season, VfL Wolfsburg travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Tuesday evening (kick-off 18:30 CEST). Following Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to SC Freiburg, the Wolves will be aiming to continue their excellent away form. The Green-and-Whites have won five of their last six Bundesliga games on the road (one draw), and if they get something from Mönchengladbach, they’ll equal the club’s Bundesliga record of seven away matches without defeat. Wolfsburg also have the chance to record three successive league wins against Borussia for the first time in over 10 years (five between 2007 and 2010). In fact, Oliver Glasner’s side have won more Bundesliga matches against the Foals (22) than against any other club.

More facts and figures

  • Striker Wout Weghorst has scored each of VfL’s last three Bundesliga goals. The last player to go on a longer goalscoring run of this kind was Mario Gomez in spring 2017 (four).

  • The Wolves squandered a two-goal lead against Freiburg last time out, the first time they’ve done so in the top flight since the 2-2 draw with Hannover in May 2015.

  • Maximilian Arnold, who scored the injury-time winner in the reverse fixture, has been directly involved in five goals against Gladbach (two goals, three assists) – he’s only yielded more attacking returns against Werder Bremen (six).

  • The Wolves enjoyed their second-highest Bundesliga win against the Foals on 7 November 1998 (7-1), which was only surpassed by the 8-1 drubbing of Augsburg on the final day of last season.

  • Gladbach have triumphed in just one of their last eight Bundesliga meetings with VfL (D2 L5), a 3-0 victory on home soil in April 2018.

  • Marin Pongracic and Xaver Schlager played under Gladbach coach Marco Rose at Salzburg.

  • The Foals come into this match having lost back-to-back Bundesliga matches for the first time under Rose. Over their last five games, Gladbach have collected just four points – a 4-1 win over Union Berlin, one draw and three defeats.

  • Schlager netted his first Bundesliga goal in the 2-1 win over Gladbach in December.
