Comfortable first friendly win

The VfL Women eased to a 5-0 victory over SV Werder Bremen.

Nine days after beginning their preparations for the second half of the season, the She-Wolves deservedly beat second-division leaders Werder Bremen 5-0 in a friendly on Saturday. Ingrid Engen, Pia-Sophie Wolter, Pernille Harder, Alexandra Popp and Lara Dickenmann scored VfL’s first goals of 2020, while new signing Madelen Janogy made a successful debut appearance for the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga frontrunners.

“A very valuable game”

VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: “Considering the number of intensive training sessions we’ve had over the last few days, it was a really good performance. You could see the players’ enjoyment of the game, even if things didn’t always come off as they wanted them too, but that’s normal. Everyone got some minutes out on the pitch, so in that regard it was a very valuable game for us. We could see what we still need to work on, though.”
