Borussia boast the second-best home record in the Bundesliga this season, although their run of 12 consecutive home league wins was ended two weeks ago. The Wolves travel to Borussia-Park on Saturday as the third-best away team in the division and with an impressive record against the Foals, winning 20 of the 38 competitive meetings between the two sides (12 defeats, six draws). Six of those successes came away from home, while none of their visits to Mönchengladbach have ended goalless. Here are some more interesting stats on the clash:
- Fixtures with Gladbach bring a smile to the face of Wolves anoraks. That’s because out of the 277 wins that the Green-Whites have recorded in the top flight, their 7-1 drubbing of Borussia on 7 November 1998 remains the biggest.
- Gladbach’s substitute goalkeeper on that day was none other than current VfL managing director Jörg Schmadtke.
- Should Bruno Labbadia’s men win on Saturday afternoon, it will be the 100th away win in the club’s Bundesliga history.
- As well as coach Dieter Hecking and his assistants, Gladbach have another ex-Wolf in their ranks in Fabian Johnson. The 31-year-old made 16 appearances (one goal) for VfL between 2009 and 2011, including his Bundesliga debut.
- The first competitive match involving the two sides was the final of the DFB Cup in 1995, which Gladbach won 3-0. Since then, all 37 of their meetings have come in the Bundesliga, so the Wolves are still waiting to avenge that cup defeat.
