The first half of the 2018/19 season ended on a painful note for Alexandra Popp after the Germany international fractured her cheekbone in the She-Wolves’ goalless draw with SGS Essen. Popp suffered the injury when she collided with Essen player Danica Wu in the 66th minute of Sunday’s stalemate. The 27-year-old managed to stay on the pitch until the final whistle but will require surgery on the fracture in the coming days. VfL have yet to arrange a date for the operation.
