Brekalo makes debut

A round-up of how VfL Wolfsburg’s international stars have fared in recent days.

Josip Brekalo dribbling with ball in the match against Spain.

Congratulations to Josip Brekalo on making his Croatia debut! The Wolves attacker not only made his first full international appearance in Thursday’s 3-2 UEFA Nations League victory against Spain, he also helped set up the winning goal by forcing David de Gea to parry his 93rd-minute shot into the path of Bayer Leverkusen’s Tin Jedvaj, who stroked home the rebound.

Elsewhere, VfL defender John Anthony Brooks was unable to prevent the USA from slipping to a 3-0 defeat to England, while Koen Casteels was an unused substitute in Belgium’s 2-0 win over Iceland. Jakub Blaszczykowski and Gian-Luca Itter were second-half substitutes for Poland and Germany’s Under-21s respectively, while John Yeboah was replaced by VfL team-mate Charles-Jesaja Herrmann in the Under-19s’ defeat to Portugal.
