Brekalo at the double

VfL Wolfsburg record a 2-0 friendly win over Holstein Kiel.

The Wolves ran out 2-0 winners over Holstein Kiel in the team’s third friendly of the pre-season. Josip Brekalo was the man of the hour, scoring both goals for the Green-and-Whites (57’, 87’).

The victory over the second-division team also saw new signing Bartosz Bialek make his debut, along with Ulysses Llanez, while Admir Mehmedi and Paulo Otavio were back in action after long-term injuries. Coach Oliver Glasner was, however, forced to do without Marcel Tisserand and Marin Pongracic.

VfL coach Oliver Glasner: “We started off very brightly and were well in control of the match, particularly in the opening 25 minutes. Then there was a period when we kept losing the ball too easily, but we scored two very good goals. I’m pleased for Josip, who really showed what he’s all about with the second goal. We kept a clean sheet and didn’t really give them a sniff other than one chance on the break. It was a step in the right direction.”
