Bound for Scotland

VfL Women have been drawn against Glasgow City in the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals.

VfL Wolfsburg Women have been pitted against Scottish champions Glasgow City FC in the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final draw, which took place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon on Friday. VfL will travel to Glasgow for the first leg on 24/25 March, with the return leg at the AOK Stadion taking place on 1/2 April. The exact dates and kick-off times will be confirmed over the coming days.

If the She-Wolves manage to get the better of the Glasgow outfit, they will play the winners of the all-Spanish quarter-final between Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona in the last four. The semi-final ties will be played on 25/26 April and 2/3 May.

“Clear aim” to reach the semis

VfL cruised to a 15-0 aggregate victory (10-0; 5-0) over Kosovan debutants KFF Mitrovica in the last 32 of the competition, before beating FC Twente 7-0 on aggregate (6-0; 1-0) in the previous round. Glasgow City, meanwhile, beat Russian outfit Chertanovo 5-1 on aggregate (1-0; 4-1) in the round of 32 before edging past Danish club Brondby IF 3-1 on penalties (2-0; 0-2) to reach the last eight.

“In our eighth Champions League appearance, we’re up against a team from Scotland for the first time,” said VfL Women sporting director Ralf Kellermann. “We’re really looking forward to both our matches against Glasgow City, a traditional club in European women’s football. Looking at all the other permutations, we go into these games with the clear aim of reaching the semi-finals.”
