"A very important win"

The coaches' reactions to VfL Wolfsburg's 1-0 win against RB Leipzig.

There were simultaneous feelings of delight and relief following the Wolves' hard-fought but fully deserved 1-0 win against Leipzig on Matchday 12. While visiting coach Ralf Rangnick highlighted the "key moment in the minute around the goal," his VfL counterpart Bruno Labbadia praised the passion and belief with which his side defended after taking the lead in the second half, finally earning a reward for largely positive performances in recent weeks.

Bruno Labbadia: "We went into the game with real belief. We didn't want to allow them to settle in the opening stages because they're good in transition and can play good football on top of that. In the first half we played well, but didn't score the goal. A couple of times we just missed the final pass, but we also had some big chances. From that point of view, we deserved to be leading at half-time. We caused them regular problems in the second half and played really well. The team then defended resolutely and passionately when Leipzig threw more and more men forward. That's how we didn't allow them many chances in the final 30 minutes. It was a very, very important win for us, because the team finally got a reward for all the effort over the last few weeks and months."

Ralf Rangnick: "As expected, it was a tough game after the international break. The key moment was the minute around the goal, when we twice had the chance to go ahead. If we'd done so, we would probably have even had the chance to win. At the end of the day, we shouldn't complain about losing – as well as the injury absentees, we had too many players today who didn't perform as they usually do."
