“A really tough task”

Niko Kovac is preparing his side for a difficult away game at FC Augsburg.

Der VfL Wolfsburg-Trainer lächelt bei der Pressekonferenz.

Last weekend’s late victory against VfB Stuttgart was as good for the Wolves players’ state of mind as it was for their position in the table. The aim now is to consolidate their upward trajectory by picking up a positive result at Augsburg on Saturday 8 October (kick-off 15:30 CEST). Before the game, VfL boss Niko Kovac spoke to the media about…

…the past week: “I’ve really liked the atmosphere over the past few days, just like the manner in which we turned the game around against Stuttgart. I’m happy with everyone’s performance in training at the moment. The mood is good, thanks in part to the positive experience of last weekend.”

…team news: “In Yannick Gerhardt, Patrick Wimmer and Jonas Wind, we’ve had some important players out injured recently, which wasn’t easy. Lukas Nmecha trained yesterday and today – he’s no longer in any pain.”

…opponents Augsburg: “Augsburg have shown how quickly things can change in the Bundesliga. FCA didn’t get off to a good start either but managed to win their last three games with a solid defence. They certainly got the rub of the green too but their quality was just as big a factor. The team are on a run now, which is where we want to be.”

…his expectations: “I’m expecting a very physical game. Augsburg are a side who attack very directly and are very aggressive. Everyone on the pitch will have to be on their toes. We’ll be facing a really tough task tomorrow.”
