"A great team performance"

The coaches' reactions to VfL Wolfsburg's 2-0 victory against VfB Stuttgart.

VfL Wolfsburg's win against VfB Stuttgart on Tuesday was the perfect way to sign off for 2018 in front of the Volkswagen Arena faithful. Having started the better of the sides and taken their chances clinically, the Wolves were two goals to the good at the interval. The visitors time and again tried to make their way into the Wolfsburg final third in the first period, but the hosts stood firm. The tempo dropped slightly after the break, with Wolfsburg in charge and defensively resolute. The 2-0 reverse was Stuttgart's seventh defeat on the road this season.

Bruno Labbadia: "It’s a very nice win. We really wanted to maintain momentum and send our home fans into the winter break with a win. We managed that. We tried not to let Stuttgart into the game and even though we didn't score any more goals in the second half, we defended well and gave them few chances. It was a great team performance and it's a great feeling to have 25 points on the board. We can all be pleased about that. The fans produced a great display beforehand, too – that gave me goosebumps. We now intend to recover and give everything again on Sunday in Augsburg."

Markus Weinzierl: "We actually started quite well. We helped the opponents at the set-piece because we weren't organised – even though we knew before the game that they're good in the air. For the second goal we gave them a helping hand, too, and it's tough when you're 2-0 down. We didn't manage to find a way back or get a goal in the second period. From that point of view, VfL fully deserve the win."
