VfL’s new signing Sarai Linder was in Wolfsburg for a short visit a few days ago, during which the German international took time for a first interview. After many years in a TSG 1899 Hoffenheim shirt, it’s the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Sinsheim native. The 24-year-old defender discussed the qualities she brings and what she has planned for her start with VfL Women.
Sarai Linder, welcome to Wolfsburg. Aside from your year abroad in the USA, this is the first transfer of your career. How does it feel?
Sarai Linder: “It’s certainly new territory when you’ve been playing for another club for many years. In that respect, it’s exciting. I felt it was the time for something new, a new step. I want to develop and think that Wolfsburg is the right club for that.”
You hinted at it – why did you choose Wolfsburg?
Sarai: “Obviously, the facilities and the quality in the squad were strong arguments for Wolfsburg. I’ve seen the strength in the squad every time I’ve been with the national team. I also find the club appealing because of its history, so it wasn’t a difficult decision for me when I heard about VfL’s interest.”
What are your plans for your start and the time with the She-Wolves?
Sarai: “First of all, I want to settle into the team, get to know everyone, come to appreciate the facilities here and then, of course, really push on and win trophies.”
What do you offer on the pitch? What can the fans look forward to?
Sarai: “Passion, robustness and fun, I would say. I hope that when people see me play, they can always tell that I really enjoy what I do.”
Before training starts at VfL on 1 July, you’ve got a few weeks’ holiday. How will you be spending them?
Sarai: “Just resting at home with the family. I’ll also be moving to Wolfsburg during this time.”
