Sarai Linder to join VfL Women

German international set to strengthen defence from the coming season.

The She-Wolves’ defence is getting a real boost, with Sarai Linder joining the Green-and-Whites from Bundesliga rivals TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on 1 July 2024. The Germany international has signed a contract that ties her to Wolfsburg until 30 June 2027 and been given the number 39 jersey.

Regular for Germany

The 24-year-old progressed through all of TSG Hoffenheim’s youth levels before making her debut for the first team in October 2016. She has gone on to make 111 appearances in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga, 13 in the DFB Cup and another ten in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. In the 2020/21 season, she spent a year in the USA with the University of Central Florida.

For her country, Lindner won the U-17 European Championship in 2016 and made her full international debut on 11 April 2023 in a friendly against Brazil. Since then, the def has established herself as a regular in the Germany squad, winning 14 caps to date, the most recent coming in the EURO qualifier against Poland.

“Can hardly wait"

“I feel honoured to get to wear the green and white. It never felt realistic in the past to dream of being part of such a big club, so I was delighted when I heard that they had been in contact,” said Linder. “I can hardly wait to play with the team and to see what we can achieve together!”

“Versatile player”

“We are so pleased to be able to bring Sarai to the club and secure the services of another German international for the long term,” said Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg.
“Not only is she currently one of the best defenders in Germany, but she is also a versatile player who can play in either full-back position. We are convinced that Sarai’s qualities will help us from day one, and she will certainly be significantly increasing the competition for places within the team.”
